Andy Grammar's Don't Give Up on Me can be played on ukulele using 4 chords--C, F, G, and Am. If you know the song, you might realize it's in a different key. The actual key would be much harder chords for the ukulele.

This fun and upbeat song uses the chords: C, F, G, and Dm. Dm is pretty similar to F. You keep your fingers down for F, and then your third finger rests on the same fret as your second finger, but on the string closest to the ground. This is one of my favorite songs to play on ukulele. It is a challenging one, as it uses some new chords for many. This song has the chords: C, F, G, Am, Em, and E7. Feel free to play the chords you know, try the new ones, or just sing along. May 20th would have been Israel Kamakawiwo'ile's 60th birthday. To commemorate this as well as in honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in the USA, Google Doodle posted some great information and a wonderful video. Go here to see it. "You Ain't Nothing But A Hound Dog" was a popular Elvis song. It was originally recorded by Big Mama Thornton in 1952. Elvis liked it so much, he decided to do a version of it too. Woody Guthrie wrote the lyrics to "This Land is Your Land" in 1940. The melody was based on a song called "When the World's On Fire," as well as "Oh My Loving Brother." These two songs use the chords C, F, and G7. Feel free to play G instead, or try to play it with G7.
For Mother's Day, here is a ukulele song that uses 3 chords, C, F, and C7. C7 was the first chord we learned with the Lime in the Coconut song. You can play a steady beat, or create some down-up patterns to play with the song. The audio underneath is me singing the song, so you can learn the melody.
For Star Wars day today (May the Fourth....be with you!) here is the Star Wars theme song for ukulele. It uses the chords C, F, and G. Enjoy! Let me know if you tried to play it! On Top of the World was released in 2012 by Imagine Dragons. This ukulele song has the chords C, F, G, Am and Dm. Here are two ukulele pieces. The first one is "Lava." It was a short Pixar film that was at the beginning of Inside Out. Lava uses four chords: C, F, G7 and Am. The second piece, "Count on Me," is much more challenging. It uses C, F, G, Am, Dm, and Em. E minor uses three fingers, diagonally down on three different strings. If you can't play all of the chords right now, feel free to play the ones you can and work up to it. Bille Withers was an American singer-songwriter and musician. He recorded many well known songs including "Ain't No Sunshine," "Just the Two of Us," and this song below, "Lean on Me." He died on March 30, 2020 at age 81. This song is a nice one to sing--especially now. If you're feeling sad, or not feeling 100%, talk to a family member or friend. Things will always get better. The song uses C, F, and G7. If G7 is too difficult for you, you can always play a G chord instead. This song uses C, F, Am and G7. G7 is kind of an upside down G chord. You'll notice with this song, going from F to G7 is a little easier than going from F to G. Your first finger from F stays where it is, your second finger moves over one string in the same position, and then you add your third finger. Here are all the chords you will need for this song. |
