The Thurston song is a REALLY hard song to play. Once a student has made it all the way through to the Thurston song and can play it at regular speed, these students now will be able to test other 4th grade students. Here is one student from last year playing the Thurston song. Our silver belt song is Hedwig's theme from Harry Potter. This song uses a few new notes and is not easy to play!
Don Gato is a song we sang in 3rd grade. It is nice to be able to build upon previous knowledge and learn how to play it on recorders in 4th grade! This is our Multicolor Belt song.
Star Wars is the Black Belt song. When the 4th graders get to black belt, they get a black belt, a black belt certificate, and they get on the Black Belt Hall of Fame (outside of the music room). The song also is played in front of the other students in the class, so the class can celebrate with each student that gets the black belt. The middle section does not need to be played to get the black belt, but anyone that learns the middle section will get to play it on the upcoming performance (in the spring, date TBD).
Ode to Joy is the Brown Belt song. There are two parts that the students can choose from to get their belt. The regular (or melody) or the challenge (or harmony) part. The chord roots are also below (in black boxes.) Here are the two parts below. Yankee Doodle is one of the Blue Belt choices. Below are the chord roots (in black boxes) and the melody. There is also a video if you need help playing it. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star is one of the Purple Belt choices. There are three parts that we are learning in music class. The chord roots (in boxes below), the melody, and the harmony. Below is also someone playing the melody. |
