I am so glad to be back in person with the 2nd graders because we get to be a community making music together. It's wonderful to be able to hear them all at once, instead of asking them to unmute one at a time! One thing we've been working on lately is composition. We took a familiar chant called, "Pumpkin Patch" and wrote a melody to go with it. Here are the 2nd grade versions. Aren't they great?

Hello 2nd Grade Musicians! With this year starting virtually, music class is a little different! We will still do as much music as possible, both synchronously (live on Zoom) and asynchronously (posted lessons on Schoology). Both synchronous and asynchronous lessons and activities are posted on your Music Schoology page. To get there, click here for Ms. Hilton's class, here for Mrs. Dorsey's class, or here for Ms. Schmid's class. (If you aren't logged into your account, you can do that once you click on the link.) "See" you during your next music class! Love, Ms. Rothfeld
Here is a bonus activity for the week (or for the summer). Read the directions and click on the links/videos in order. If you'd like to share the musical message you've created with me, you can post the link to your Seesaw Account, to the comments below, or have your parents find my email address and they can send it to me. I hope you have a wonderful summer!
While I wish we could be together in the music room, I've decided to bring the music room to you! Click on the picture below. It will take you to a website that looks the same as the picture, but with clickable links. The links are a combination of music websites, games, books, and videos. Some of them will be familiar, but a lot will be new! Explore the different links. When you are finished, click on my computer in the carpet circle. This will take you to a Google Form. The form asks a few questions about what your favorite links were and why, as well as suggestions that you may have. Enjoy!
Have you ever played MadLibs? It's a fun game where a story is written, but with blank spaces. Underneath the blanks are categories such as: a place, a person, an object. If you are playing with another person, you ask them to give you a word that fits the description and you write it down, without them seeing the story. When they have given you answers to all the blank spaces, you read the story with their answers. It usually makes the story pretty funny! Well, this is MUSICAL MadLibs! On Seesaw, there is another song for you to do this with. Below is "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star"--with some of the words missing.
Either by yourself, or with a family member, come up with answers that fit the categories I have given. (If you are doing this alone, don't use the regular words, use different ones.) Once you finish filling in the blanks, sing the song using the and see what you have changed it to. For a BONUS, you can make up your own Musical Madlibs! Take a song you know and come up with your own blank spaces for a family member to fill in, or just fill it in yourself. What song did you choose? What words did you fill in? Was it fun? Mr. Fisher's Field Day is coming soon! To prepare for it, we are doing 2 weeks of field day challenges! Ms. B begins the challenge on Monday. She has challenged the 3rd grade teachers. My challenge is on Tuesday. Check back here on Tuesday to see if the 2nd grade teachers were able to do my challenge! In the meantime, for a preview to next week's lesson, click here and explore music from all around the world. Or watch the video below for a fun tongue twister! Here is a song perfect for Mother's Day, or any other day too! Below are the words. You can play the audio too to learn the melody. If you go to your Seesaw account, I have included video of how to do the sign language for the song. Try to sing it for your mom (or someone who is a mother figure in your life). For an extra challenge, learn the sign language too! Did you sing it to someone? What did they say or do?
Did you know that today is Star Wars Day? Today is May 4th....May the Fourth (Force) be with you!) :-) I've created some special Star Wars activities for you here. Click on this link to be taken to a special Star Wars slide. 1. Explore the different links provided by clicking the different characters. 2. Tell me your favorite link/video that you explored. 3. Why did you like it? 4. Share your favorite link/video with a family member if you can. Have fun and enjoy! Love, Ms. Rothfeld This is a fun song to sing. It's called, "To Stop the Train." It can be sung in a round too. On your Seesaw, there is an activity to go with it. If you'd like to work on the song, here are the words. I've also included audio of me singing it.
