One thing that the 2nd grade classes have been working on is two-part harmony. They are really becoming independent musicians! We have been learning chord roots to various pieces, and then dividing into two groups. One group sings the melody, the other group sings the chord roots. Then, when we are successful at that, we can also do it with a partner. One partner sings the melody, the other partner sings the chord roots. We even did this with the co-operband. We sang and moved the co-operband to the chord roots and also sang the melody.
Welcome back 2nd grade families! I am excited for another amazing year in the Thurston music room with this year's 2nd graders. This year we will be learning even more than last year, and next month, we will even begin learning to play the ukulele! This year the 2nd graders will have three music classes every week. I am looking forward to seeing all of the musical growth and development that will happen as the year progresses. |
