The 4th Graders went to Revelli Hall on October 9 to present Thurston's music curriculum to a class of University of Music music majors. One of the music majors used to go to Thurston! He was Ms. Rothfeld's students from Kindergarten through 5th grade!
The University of Michigan students were VERY impressed with what the 4th graders were able to do. The 4th graders demonstrated many music concepts, including figuring out if a song was in duple or triple meter, "translating" rhythm patterns from neutral syllables to rhythm syllables, singing in 3-part harmony, figuring out when a song changes from major to minor, and more! A small group from each class also played the ukuleles to demonstrate how well they can play ukulele and sing. They also got a mini-performance from a clarinetist who played "Rhapsody in Blue" and excerpts from Peter and the Wolf.
