While I wish we could be together in the music room, I've decided to bring the music room to you! With an adult, click on the picture below. It will take you to a website that looks the same as the picture, but with clickable links. The links are a combination of music websites, games, books, and videos. Some of them will be familiar, but a lot will be new! Explore the different links. Let me know what your favorite links are!
Mr. Fisher's Field Day is coming soon! To prepare for it, we are doing 2 weeks of field day challenges! Ms. B begins the challenge on Monday. She has challenged the 3rd grade teachers. My challenge is on Tuesday. Check back here on Tuesday to see if the 2nd grade teachers were able to do my challenge! In the meantime, here is a cheesy but fun music warm up to stretch out you face and get you ready to sing. This chant, "Rainy Day" is all about rain and puddles. Do you like to splash in the puddles? Try to read the words or listen to me read them below. Pretend to jump into a puddle every time you hear the word, "splash."
After you do the chant a few times, try one of the patterns to the right, or make up your own. Whatever pattern you decide to do, make it an "ostnato." Remember, an ostinato is a repeated pattern, so do your pattern again and again. An adult can read the words while you do your ostinato. If you want to see a video of me doing different ostinatos, it's on my YouTube channel. Your families should have gotten an email about it. If they can't find it, they can send me an email, or post a comment below and I will send it to you! Here is one of the songs Preschoolers love to dance and sing with. Listen to words and see if you can remember the movements that go with it. If you can't remember all of them, make up your own movements! Here's a fun video for you to try. There are four different moves you will do. There will be four people with shapes next to them. The screen will tell you which person to follow. Here are the four movements you'll need: Triangle=Squat Jumps Circle=Fold down and reach up Square=Run X=Run and Clap Once you go through it once, create your own movements to go with each shape. Have fun! We started this activity when we were in school, but didn't get to finish it. Maybe you can finish on your own! We took the nursery rhyme, "One Two, Buckle My Shoe," learned it, and started creating rhymes to go with it. Here is the real version and the partial version that Thurston Preschoolers came up with so far. Maybe you can finish the rhymes at home!
Do you remember the song about the bunny from music class? The one called "Little Cabin in the Woods?" Sing it to your family. Maybe you can even remember the movements that go along with the song. Here are the words below. If you click on the play button below the words, you can even hear the preschoolers singing the song together from earlier this year! Don't forget to make the knocking sound with your tongue when it gets to that part!
Time for some movement! Pretend you are the teacher and take your family members through this dance. Remember to walk around the room until the part that says "sat myself down." Think of different ways you could do the Ant Dance. Try some easy movements, then see if you can make up some hard ones too!
Hi Preschoolers! Try teaching your family the Popcorn Chant. Here are the words below. Remember, each time you do it, change to a different part of the body. What are your favorite ideas?
