The preschoolers have been learning different Halloween songs and chants. Today we had music class and recorded the chant below. Here is "Five Little Pumpkins."
Your children may be coming home singing the "Donkey Song." This song is a preschool favorite every year. Ask your child to sing this song to you. We have also been playing games with it. One game is where we take two signs--a SINGING sign and an AUDIATING sign. Individual students get to decide when we sing and when we audiate. The students are enjoying it, and are getting pretty good at thinking the music when it is not present, and start singing at the right part of the song when it is time. Here are the words to the song and an audio version of the Preschoolers singing it!
Your children may have been coming home talking about “audiating” music. Audiation is to music as thinking is to language. Audiation takes a child from imitating musical sounds around them, to engaging in, understanding, and creating musical sounds. A student who audiates music is giving meaning to music. In other words, it is “thinking music with meaning.” Tonal and rhythmic patterns are an important part of audiation development. If you happen to stop by in a preschool music class (you are more than welcome to come visit us!), you will see a lot of pattern instruction. Similar to learning vocabulary of a language, pattern instruction is our “music vocabulary.” Pattern instruction is tailored to each student’s ability to encourage musical growth. I have been very impressed with the preschool students’ ability to echo and create both tonal and rhythm patterns this year! I am so excited to meet the new group of Preschoolers this year. When going to school at Michigan State University, I taught several years of Early Childhood Music classes. This is where I developed my love for music teaching. I am looking forward to a great year with your children. We will have music twice a week on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:05-10:35am. Ms. Vaujin (and Mrs. Krohn when she comes back from maternity leave also see the Preschoolers twice a week on Monday mornings (10:05-10:35am) and Tuesday afternoons (2:25-2:55pm). |
PreschoolThe Preschool class has music 4 times a week--two times with Ms. Rothfeld and then two times with Ms. Vaujin (until Mrs. Krohn is back from her maternity leave). Archives
