Alfred the Alligator is a fun and fast song with a lot of words! It can also be sung as a round. I've included the audio of me singing the song below--as a single part, and as a 4 part round. Feel free to pick a part and sing with it. Do you think this song is in Major or Minor Tonality? How do you know?
This week's lesson will include trying to figure out the rhythm patterns that go with the words of the poem, "The Sun." (More details and a more interactive activity are on your Music Google Classroom. If you aren't able to get to it, send me a message and I can help you.)
Listen to the audio of me reading the poem/chant. With each box below, see if you can figure out the rhythm pattern that fits with each box. Hint: Each rhythm pattern will happen more than once. When you are finished, check your work. Read all the rhythms. Read the poem/chant. Do the two parts fit? Musication (the creators of many of our Boomwhacker pieces) made a couple videos for people to play along with at home. These two pieces below use things you probably have at home. There are four types of objects you will need: a box, a metal can, cutlery (forks or spoons), and a lid. If you don't have any of the objects, pick something else to use instead. These are pieces that you could do with some family members, or pick one or two of the objects to follow with the songs. Wolgang Amadeus Mozart's Alla Turka and Jacques Offenbach's Gallop Infernal (also known as The Can-Can) are the two pieces to play along with below. Follow the falling shapes. When they touch the specific objects, "play" them.
Below is the song "Old Joe Clark." Since you know it so well, after you sing it, try to make up a few verses of your own. They can be as silly as you'd like. Try to make the end of the second and fourth line rhyme, but as you can see with this song, they don't always rhyme, so your verses don't have to either. I'd love to hear your new verses. Feel free to share your ideas below!
